BIBLICAL REFERENCE TO MEDITATION

Joshua 1:8   This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt MEDITATE therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Psalm 1:2   But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he MEDITATE day and night.

The Hebrew Word for Meditate is hagah {haw-gaw'} and literally means to moan, growl, utter, muse, mutter, meditate, devise, plot, speak, imagine. A word synonomous with meditate isr ruminate which gives a fuller meaning. Merriam-Webster defines ruminate as; to go over in the mind repeatedly and often casually or slowly, to chew repeatedly for an extended period, to engage in contemplation.
